Hah. This is a weird painting. I like it. "Circus on Mars"- now I get it. I think.
Fontana, Miro, and Red Skelton.
Sorry to just name a bunch of other artists (this painting make sense in the context of your paintings of the past few years) but I can't help but think of Michael Tetherow. It's hard to find a good image online of one of his colorful crusty paintings from the 70's with holes in it standing for eyes and mouth. One example. Another.
chris - thanks for michael tetherow, i was not familiar with his stuff at all. definitely will try to do more research, and i appreciate your providing those links.
Failed utopia, or at least obsolete design sensibilities. Red and baby blue are not the future.
Circuses use yellow, red and green - its more oriental than french or Russian. Circuises come from the continent of Mu and the Island of Atlantis, the Hollow Earth.
Russians are in again but the cold war is gone. Aliens and stateless terrorists are the enemies now.
But "Killer Clowns From Outer Space" is a classic.
i'm back from the opening... very happy with the show, it looks great... i'm really into the space, and how the paintings look there. the walls are all concrete and cracked... saw lots of people.
i'll definitely post pictures later.. but before that i'm going to post pictures from some other shows i've seen.
