RH Quaytman, at Miguel Abreu - tight smart intense rigorous eye/mind awesome show... her show at Orchard earlier this year equally excellent... i think i might make a small list of the best shows i saw this year.
diamond dusted.... detail... karesansui... tsukimi.
click and enlarge it...
Harvey Quaytman's daughter I believe - and evidently continuing the DNA in some fashion. I just saw the documentary "my kid could paint that," which raises all the usual spirits, though hardly worth discussing on this august blog.
ReplyDeleteInteresting the austere qualities - sunlight filtering through the dust, factory homes, the excesses of efficiency, air conditioning grills always did it for me, the way they dent, the loss of stability on the leading edge, inevitable decline, failure, pompei, bodies trapped and molded in hot ash for the next generation to inject with concrete. City streets we greet within ten feet squares, friends, country, grids. Lend me your steak knives and lets fillet the beast.
oh and agnes, she sold everything - but to whom?
yes harvey q.'s daughter, and her mother is a famous poet... i've liked harvey q. since can't remember when.
ReplyDeletei think you are definitely right that she's "continuing the DNA"... a lot of her stuff is informed by her family history.
love the last one...
ReplyDeletethe gallery floor is kind of a bummer, though.
this is the first time i've really liked the floor in this space... it works with these paintings.. and feels kind of eastern european or something... institutional... and i think she has spent a lot of time in poland.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful art work.
ReplyDeleteWow. Most definitely click and enlarge.
