Ed Ruscha Says Goodbye To College Joys
Ed Ruscha Says Goodbye To College Joys
Okay I am responding to Andrew Russeth's prompt to post Ed Ruscha's Jan 1967 Artforum advertisement... 'Ed Ruscha Says Goodbye To College Joys'.
I've been collecting artist's ads as art for about a year, wanting to post them all someday but keep waiting for it to be complete... although I doubt it ever will be... the newsprint stuff is impossible to find.
Plus I think David Platzker or someone has the same eBay 'watch list' that I do and keeps outbidding me.
RELATED: the NYMagazine cover with Dan Colen, Dash Snow, Ryan McGinley... January 2007, exactly 40 years later.

Paintings inevitably get good when you give up hope, then it's easy to take a risk because there’s nothing to lose. It's all about ruining shit and thus saving it from predictability. - Nicole Eisenman, with Butt Johnson, for Rereveal.
Painting is a lot like fishing. Stick your brush in the water and wait. Hope for something big (or at least funny looking…) Read the paper. Eat a sandwich. Think about painting. Call Baselitz (no answer.) Read “Hunger”. Crossword puzzle. Whistle. Paint. Curse God. Go home. - Joe Bradley, for Peres Projects.

Jamison Brosseau
Jamison Brosseau Studio.
Jamison working...
Looks like a painting of a vessel, that looks like a spider... it's flat but I'm imagining volume... I keep thinking of Mary Heilmann talking about painting her ceramics.
