Brenda Goodman

Brenda Goodman has the show on the floor above mine at John Davis Gallery. I was excited to meet her because I've liked her work since first reading about it on Artcritical.com... and later that summer happened to see a couple paintings in the window of John Davis.


These two images posted are not in the current show... they're brand new.

This is the show mentioned when I posted on Party at Phong's House... two of the best group shows I saw earlier this month. Both are artist-curated medium-specific shows built around central artists... the Chris Martin (painter) show stars Ron Gorchov, the B. Wurtz (sculpture) show grounded by a Sol Lewitt.

Begin Again Right Here included a number of favorite artists... John Beech at Peter Blum was one of the best shows I saw last year.

Nancy Shaver had an excellent show at John Davis earlier this year... including this collaboration with Kenji Fujita. John Davis Gallery ROCKS!

YAY to Fawn... I didn't even recognize this as hers.. she is multi-talented, everything is always really good. I'm for Fawn.

Has a fifties vibe... a fetish object, some kind of bondage thing... but this piece is more like samurai armor than a kimono. Diane Simpson, featured on a good Chicago artblog.

Agathe Snow

Agathe Snow, at James Fuentes.


They're like mobiles... everything is suspended from curtain rod axis, hanging from the ceiling. James Hyde once referred to the mobile as a "ruined genre".... loved that.

These pieces are each based on individual fables by Leonardo da Vinci... I don't know any of the fables but wished that I had... very much enjoyed the sense of (backstage) theatricality and invention. It felt like a rich full magical narrative was mid-suspension.

Roger White

Roger White, at Rachel Uffner Gallery.


Roger White is the first show at this new gallery... Rachel Uffner has taken over the disbanded Orchard space. A few of the Orchard members might be starting a new place in Harlem.


This is the third painting from the left in the installation photo above, it's small. I like the traces of white on top signifying the unopened perforated oval, the gold arches and bow on the side, and how the print pattern sort of falls over the edge of the box (click the image to see it bigger).
