Beth Gilfilen
Beth Gilfilen, at John Davis Gallery, Hudson NY.... through August 15th.
Beth is in the carriage house concurrent with Brenda Goodman's show in the storefront space. John Davis has a main year-round storefront space, and a second building - a former carriage house - which is used for the summer... each artist gets a floor.
The carriage house space is fantastic.... Beth's show is on the same floor EJ Hauser had. Sharon Butler on 4. Kenji Fujita and Nancy Shaver on 4. Bromirski on 3.

OK i really like this painting and it reminds of these 1907 infant stool samples.
HEY did you take my poll asking which 1907 infant stool sample Cai Guo-Qiang's Whitney Biennial Gap Artist Editions T-shirt most resembles?

Charles Krezell
Charles Krezell
Went to this weird show with Denise K. last month... there was some freaky stuff. My favorites were Charles Krezell and Martin Perez.
This other Krezell is more brushy and frenetic... can't figure out what is happening, some kind of landscape with a figure, maybe walking on water(?)... makes me think of Ensor or someone, and even a little of Vic's paintings. There are some letters but I can't make out what it might say, and at the bottom right is a black plastic bag pushed through a hole in the canvas.

Wendy White
Wendy White at Leo Koenig... TWO shows ago, that's how far behind I am with things I want to post.
L.A. Noir... they have a polluted rosy glow.
Like bruised Ruscha... future signposts, mystery totems, grimy negaglyphs.
Hollywoodland. Church Aurora.
Wendy is included in two current NYC shows -
Shape Language at Nicole Klagsbrun... with Joe Bradley, Blinky Palermo, and others.
I'll Let You Be In My Dreams If I Can Be In Yours, at Fredericks & Freiser... with artists including Lamar Peterson.
insets
Charlie Finch wrote that they look like they were painted with a dirty sponge that would give even Dumas pause... good one.

fuuuck
.
Jesus... four weeks with four reviews of his own shitty Bravo show. Is this going to continue for another month? It's worse than the three-in-one-week Defense of the New Museum articles, before that mess even opened.
JS facebook page henceforth to be referred to as 'Jerry Saltz's mirror lick'... thank Paul H-O for that one.
