a show

I'm going to have an unexpected show in October... this is good news because my resume was looking pretty bare for 2008. Also have a show happening at the start of the new year, although I should probably get back in touch with them and confirm things.

- failed again to see the DiBenedetto and Edmier shows. I'll try again next Saturday... either that or maybe go to Geoffrey Young Gallery in Great Barrington to see this show recommended to me by Jon Lutz (because of the inclusion of Gianna Commito).

- those interested in following the Steven Parrino talk started here, continued (a little) in the comments here, but mostly here and here, should check back on Bill Schwarz's blog to read the many subsequent comments.

- Timothy Buckwalter did a three-part "oral history" with Philadelphia artist Michael Macfeat... and Mildred Greenberg was mentioned (!) -

"Michael Macfeat: In 1986 I founded Meat, giving the original Heat group members a chance to exhibit with a wider selection of artists, with me in the unenviable position of curator. There were 16 original members, the five Heat artists plus Harry Anderson, David Goerk (of Bunnydrums), Judith Schaecter, Millie Greenberg (a septuagenarian), Tom Steigerwald, Bill Russell, Martha Masiello, Linda Stoudt, Arline Peco and Bill Hooper."

Congratulations Martin!

thanks! it's a cool space... i really like it. gray concrete walls, beams, creaky stairs... kind of wabi-sabi.

the top floor of that space is where i saw the nancy shaver and kenji fujita piece.

Martin I bet everybody (else) will come to your show if invited. Is Hudson on the MetroNorth line?

Wish I could be at the show.

hmmmm.. do I hear grumblingzzz of a field trip!?!?

Martin said...

well everybody reading this is certainly invited...

the opening is saturday october 11th... not sure what time but probably in the evening.

i'm not expecting a bunch of people to make that opening, that's a lot to ask, but hudson is kind of a cool town to make a day-trip out of the city, and october might be a nice month... so.. just sayin'

oh yeah, right nearby is frederick chirch's olana and thomas cole's home and studio. barnaby you would certainly enjoy olana.

okay, actually i am now thinking that if you are in nyc and have not been to olana that october 11th would be a perfect day for you to visit, followed by a visit to the reception at john davis gallery.

Are the tattered black material and the striped sock part of the painting Martin?

Martin said...

no, that is just a studio shot. but i like how they all look together.

i did experiment with attaching that tattered t-shirt to that painting, but decided against it. the other sock was used in a couple paintings, and i will most likely be using that sock in something. stripes are nice.

did you read joe fyfe's short article on stripes for artcritical?

Joe is artcritical's number one super all-star. It would be great if he could review one of your upcoming exhibitions. I met him at the one and only artcritical 'business' meeting that took place at David Cohen's previous living space a number of years ago. Joe was wearing a really nice striped scarf. At some point afterwards David said that Joe liked my writing but I never heard that from Joe himself. It still made me feel slightly more confident about my writing.

I might have been remembering wrong about Joe's scarf. It might not have been striped.

Super congrats on the upcoming exhibition. I’ve heard from some friends who show with John that they like his program and his dedication to “paint’in”. Good excuse to busy your fingers more on the palette and less on the keyboard.

You think Michael Macfeat would have at least mentioned the original Heat members from whence he began rather that rely on the names of members of Meat due to perhaps their names being more established in the art community. One must always keep in mind that it is about the art work not the recognition.
