Lauren Luloff - has an outdoor installation in the backyard space at Black and White Gallery, opening TONIGHT (6-9pm). I reaallly enjoy her stuff...

The work will stay up, or whatever happens to it in the elements, June 8 - July 16.

Eva Lake - has started an interview-based talk radio show covering visual art. The scheduled guests for the show are all announced in advance, and you can listen live - and call in - or listen anytime because all the shows are archived.

Eva has already done one with Charlie Finch (I haven't listened to it yet), Nancy Baker - of Tire Shop/Edna/Winkleman fame - is coming up soon, followed by Chris Ashley. Good ones! Later she is doing Richard Polsky... Richard Polsky really hates Marlene Dumas.

Drew Liverman - as mentioned briefly in the previous post, Drew Liverman has an eight-page spread in the current issue of Beautiful Decay.

It's called A Chemical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz, Based Loosely on the Seminal Text by Valentin Andreae... I'm not sure if I have that exact... just go to page 64. Here is some info on the source.

"Often I dreamed, how was Tbilisi 150 or 200 years ago? Living in the oldest part of Tbilisi, it was quite easy to imagine it myself, as the district is barely touched, but falling apart these days from lack of any repairs. This will change very soon with the implimentation of govermental and private reconstruction programmes. There is a good chance, that what you see here does not exist anymore, except in our imagination and in history. I worked over the last 3 winter month on digital collages on a fictional story about an imaginary horse thief in Old Tbilisi. I tried to catch my private romantic vision of this quarter. I tried to remember the streets and their living inhabitants, the many families from all different origins living in and around Sayat-Nova-Street and to work on artistic problems in my collages. But it became something else"

Hans had a nightmare -

"I dreamed last night, that I sold a piece on Pulse. It was a photo-poster of a book reading tramp in b/w, what was a print and very popular in the former German Democratic Republic. I remember I just signed and framed that poster and it got sold in minutes for USD 16.000"

(b)ananartista!!! Have you watched his youtube videos yet??? Okay, if you click on some of those it warns of "adult content"... but just do it... it's not explicit. Do it for the sake of humanity.

The internet is amazing... I didn't even get e-mail until 2001... how would I have ever heard of these artists before the internet??? One is a German living in Tblisi, one is in London, and one is in Italy; I "met" Hans on blogs, Esiri on flickr, and (b)ananartista through youtube.

I put some stuff on the Saatchi site... I had reservations, because there is just so much stuff on there it is overwhelming, but Hans is on it, Esiri is on it, and I'm already on the Artists Space site; neither site is curated/juried... what difference does it make.

I'm not on re-title, but re-title isn't free... although I can't figure out from the site how much it costs to join. I think I had an early chance to get on re-title for free when they were starting, but I stupidly didn't do it. re-title lists anaba, thanks re-title.

Uber is the newest one... this is LA based, and free... here is MY UBER PAGE. This site was complicated, for me... but I finally got it. You have a lot of control with this one... and it's kind of like myspace. Mark Creegan is on it, Carol Es is on it... we all designed our own pages. Glenn Kaino and Lauri Firstenberg are involved with it somehow.

Inliquid - this Philadelphia site is the first one I had my work on, before the other free on-line ones started up, but I'm off now.

I can't believe it's been so long since I made this first post on artist's websites....

It would be nice if the White Columns registry were re-activated, and was utilized. I think that was the only juried one.... just something small to shoot for. It was a first break for so many.

Andreas Thieme

Looking at Hans Heiner Buhr's blog I came across this post on his friend and former teacher Andreas Thieme. I looked at Thieme's website and while I wasn't into all of it I really liked Gaukler am Meer, Maler mit zwei Modellen, and Scholkind (Zustansfoto) - the one pictured above. Roberta says "if the scale was tiny they'd be sweet. if it was huge they'd scare me".

Thieme will be showing in Zwickau at the Galerie am Domhof on October 18th.

Through a comment on J.T. Kirkland's blog I've discovered the blog and work of Hans Heiner Buhr, a German artist living in Tbilisi, Georgia. His work is good and he's got some strong opinions - check out what he says about local artist Duane Keiser. He has also posted in the comments section to Kirkland's recent review of Kehinde Wiley on DCist. I'll excerpt -

"I think this is really the opposite of art- very bad art- no art at all. Sorry for the young artist, he has to start again. Wrong road for sure. I can not see any Tiepolo, Titian, Ingres or Raphael at all, but even if, that would be the wrong way too"

Some of the work he's posted on his blog reminds me a bit of the EXCELLENT Nancy Spero show of Vietnam era work I saw in NYC a while back. He's also got me thinking of Joy Garnett.

Best of all, I just love artblogs and how they are letting artists from all over become aware of each other's work and have conversations. Some of my favorite artists now are artists I have never seen in a glossy magazine or have had a Chelsea show. Wow.
