Small A Projects

Sarah Braman, Indian Summer Home, 2008 - almost invisible with plexi, doubled by mirror.

To the left of the rising sun, at Small A Projects summer UPSTATE NY show, in Greenwich, Washington County. This was a shocker for me. I live here. This is a small town of 5,000, about an hour north of Albany. I work on a farm. NEVER expected to see a Sarah Braman here.

Sarah Braman
Sarah Braman, Indian Summer Home, 2008 - this is the other side... a floating (leaping) facade, flat and joyful... no hint of the boxiness, complexity and depth created by the mirror, plexi, and reflections.

Corin Hewitt, Strong Hold, 2009

Corin Hewitt
Corinn Hewitt, detail of Strong Hold.

Liked his work in a 7/05 D'Amelio Terras show - My favorites here were the two collages by Corin Hewitt. Really weird.

Bill Jenkins, Thicket, 2006 - rimmed with pale minty green, looks like it is speeding through hyperspace on the pegboard.

Bill Jenkins, No Title, 2009 - spraypaint on corner wall.

Laurel
Small A Projects' Laurel Gitlen.

To the left of the rising sun is open Thursday-Saturday noon-six, through August 16th. THERE WILL BE A CLOSING RECEPTION August 16th.

Jeffery Beardsall

Jeffery Beardsall

Found two Jeffery Beardsall pieces in a new junk shop... they are NICE. Folded paper, with some kind of paint and/or pastel, in plexiglass cases, signed and dated 1979. Click on any of these pictures to see them much closer, it's worth it.

This is how I found them, but not exactly, because when I found them they were upside-down... plus, the guy has taped that white index card with the artist's name to it. I should have kept my mouth shut, maybe.

The plexi cases are original, but cracked and broken in spots. I really like these. Keep thinking of Jo Baer.

The Endless Battle To Survive - The Continuity Of Life On Earth

Brian Baker
Last month I visited the Hannaford's in Greenwich, NY.

Brian Baker
A sign in front of a door marked employees only offered a tantilizing secret.

Brian Baker
Inside the forbidden room was a mural that spanned the length of the entire wall, and continued onto the next. The mural began on the left with primordial ooze, illustrating the arrival of dinosaurs and the rise of mammals, ....

Brian Baker
... and continued on the right, far far into the future; after the fall of man, the arrival of new creatures, and the eventual rise of a new intelligence.

Brian Baker
This is Brian Baker's Endless Battle To Survive - The Continuity Of Life On Earth!

Brian was in the room when I visited and finishing the mural after more than a year of work. He works in the meat department, and management offered him the empty walls of the employee meeting room as a place to make a mural after seeing how much talent and effort he put into writing and drawing the daily specials. He did this ON THE CLOCK!

I salute the management of the Greenwich Hannaford's.
