announcements and misc.

Wendy White opening at Leo Koenig, Friday June 2oth 6-8pm. The show runs through August 1st.

N. Elizabeth Schlatter has published a book, Museum Careers: A Practical Guide for Students and Novices.

Speaking of books... I'm enjoying Goodreads, especially as a place to find good books and to easily keep track of books I'd like to read. Not so into the Facebook applications and all the junk that comes with them.

PLUS: some photos from interesting shows seen on my last visit to nyc... wish i could post more on them, but i got overloaded -

Susan Hiller
Susan Hiller at Timothy Taylor Gallery, at the Armory - it was like a solo survey show, the whole booth was for her... I don't think I've ever seen her work before. Here are some more photos.

Dave Miko
Dave Miko, at Wallspace - kinda liked these failed paintings made into stools.

Miriam Schapiro
Miriam Schapiro, at Flomenhaft - this was also a survey show... rewarding.

Dearest Martin,

Tom says he is not mad you missed his opening anymore tho' some hurt still lingers. He assures me that if there is a next time he plans on offering you a generous stipend in compensation for your attendance..

I would do the same but last Friday night while plying E. White with drinks I lost the 'family' credit card and am now o-fficially broke.

But that won't stop me from attending Wendy White's opening and seeing you ! (with Sanford as well.) Oh and I am supposedly sober this week. So the broke thing works out (and Leo only ever serves beer which does nothing for my vodka palate.)(tho' I am gaining so much weight because of the DT's I may not have anything to wear.)

Well Barney, you and martin should come by my studio before Ms. White's opening. I will make sure to have plenty of vodka (as well as beer) on hand and i can tell Martin about my super secret new project before we head up to chelsea. what do you say?

I have to drive.

Don't get any vodka. I have a flask if I HAVE to...

Martin hasn't even answered yet!

And I am concentrating on rating books right now.

Martin I'm confused: Did you move to New York City or that town in upstate NY you were talking about?

Martin! It was great seeing you! If I don't see ya at Debra's thing.. I SWEAR I am finally going to come good on my part of the trade.

Hi. That was one of the most fun openings ever and MARTIN I still can't believe I actually got to meet you!!! It was just as thrilling as I had imagined. Maybe slightly more thrilling. And Barnaby do you mind if I tell you I love you right here on Martin's blog. Love fest. Bathing suit area rampage. Cereal in beard.

With Barnaby and Martin in one room that was a lot of Southern charm.

i had a great time seeing all of you. thanks to wendy and leo koenig for the dinner.

i'm still in nyc, went to jon lutz'z show in mcpark to today... that was another fun time.

i'll post something for monday.

tryathesthete - about cliques... i think it is more like a few different cliques that overlap at the opening and on the blog... it isn't all one big clique in real life. wendy's work is excellent.
