on painting

Paintings inevitably get good when you give up hope, then it's easy to take a risk because there’s nothing to lose. It's all about ruining shit and thus saving it from predictability
. - Nicole Eisenman, with Butt Johnson, for Rereveal.

Painting is a lot like fishing. Stick your brush in the water and wait. Hope for something big (or at least funny looking…) Read the paper. Eat a sandwich. Think about painting. Call Baselitz (no answer.) Read “Hunger”. Crossword puzzle. Whistle. Paint. Curse God. Go home. - Joe Bradley, for Peres Projects.
