Art Basel: Stuffy's Photos!!! PLUS... where are they now???

Douglas Witmer sent me his Art Basel: Stuffy's photos! LOOK, this is it! The pieces on that first wall are me, Michael Lease, 3 by Drew Liverman, and Rachel Hayes. Check out all the booths!

I saw today that Drew has an EIGHT-PAGE spread in the current issue of Beautiful Decay! wow. PLUS, Rachel has a review in NYArts Magazine.

Bruce has got a lot going on.... Don is back in Richmond for the summer.... Scott is where? Last thing I know is Scott made Boozefox with Drew and Jules, in Austin... and it LOOKS AMAZING... Travis is probably in a boxcar somewhere?

That is almost the whole show, only a couple spaces not shot. One artist, Michelle Arthur, isn't pictured here, these photos were taken at the end of the show and she had just picked up her stuff.

Travis Conner

Travis Conner is showing at Nonesuch this month. This is the second show of his that I've seen, and this one is as rewarding as the first.

The beautiful young girl rising up out of the water above is the daughter of the woman in the smaller picture.


These two are maybe my favorites. The one on the left is very hard to see, even in the gallery. It is of somebody jumping on a trampoline, but the trampoline is not in the picture and the person is bent over... with the sun in the background you can only make out arms and legs. It is just a blurry glimpse of an anonymous person, mid-air, enjoying life. The mostly bare trees and sunlight are very specific. I keep thinking about time and the passing of time with these works, especially this one. I like that it is a struggle to see.

The one on the right looks like cherry blossoms. In Japan we have hanami, everybody goes to spend the day admiring the cherry blossoms, they bloom and fall so quickly. The newspapers and tv even follow the "cherry blossom front", the wave of blooming blossoms from down in Okinawa up to Hokkaido.

Travis Conner and Don Crow are both showing in Richmond this month!

Excited because I just found out that Travis Conner is showing at Nonesuch this month... I was really into his show at Chop Suey.

Also... Don Crow is one of three artists - with Greg Carbo and Amie Oliver - currently exhibiting at Plant Zero. This is another artist I had a great first encounter with.

Travis Conner is showing at Chop Suey. I really like these, especially the more sinister spooky sci-fi ones, with spectral forces and demons flickering through slacker Richmond

That green light repeats the color of the green spray-paint in the photo directly above it. The hooded figure on the t-shirt below is an echo one reality removed of the specter in the first photo above, both of them are scary Jedi ghosts. The 7-11 flourescents are like light-sabers.
